Imperial Beach Sandcastle Competition Aug 06

Imperial Beach Sandcastle Competition

One day each year for the past 29 years the beachfront of Imperial Beach, Coronado’s southern neighbor, have been transformed into a whimsical wonderland of sand sculptures.

The 30th U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition takes place this Sunday, August 8th from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm. During this time teams of sand sculptors work their magic creating massive works of art.

The teams are categorized into master and amateur categories and include from 3 to 10 members, all vying for a share of the $21,000 in cash prizes to be awarded.

It is amazing to see what the teams create, the details they can achieve and the themes they choose. I just love walking through the sand sculptures and find something to delight in everywhere I turn.

Although the sandcastle competition is the highlight of the Sandcastle Weekend, it is actually a three day event filled with entertainment, food and activities.

Baby Del Hosts Event Aug 05

Wine for Water

The delightful Baby Del in Coronado is the site of this weekend’s Wine for Water event.

Wine for Water is a benefit for the Engineers Without Borders San Diego State University Chapter. This local chapter of the non-profit 501(c)3 humanitarian organization, Engineers Without Borders, was recently approved to begin work on a project with a community of 660 people in Tejeras, Honduras. The water source of the community is polluted and is making the inhabitants sick with gastrointestinal problems and skin irritations.

Due to the generous sponsorship of the event by One Hope Wine, Chula Vista Printing and Graphics, Dinners by David, Wells Fargo, Radiance Yoga in Mission Hills, and Holland’s Bicycles in Coronado, you can enjoy an evening of wine, hors d’oeuvres and live entertainment.

So come sip some wine so the children and families in Tejeras, Honduras can drink clean water!
