Coronado Thanksgiving Winds Down Nov 27

As every Southern Californian and anyone watching the Chargers football game knows, the weather was spectacular today with a high of 85 degrees in Coronado.

As I walked to the library to get a couple of books on tape for my trip to Kanab this week, the sun was still shining. People of all ages were out and about sporting shorts and t-shirts, enjoying the “heat wave” as the newscasters are calling it.

Coronado Trees Nov 08

I often mention the foliage of Coronado -its beauty and diversity. Recently, the Coronado Clarion posted a video about the trees of Coronado. Their brief walk through one of the lovely neighborhoods of Coronado showcase a variety of trees and illustrate the vast number of tree species grown on Coronado.

As I’ve said before with over 100 species of trees, Spreckels Park is one of the best places to see a representation of the variety of trees in Coronado.

Whether you cruise through the neighborhoods or enjoy and afternoon in Spreckels Park, when you get the cance come delight in the wonderful trees of Coronado!

Coronado Summer Concert Tradition Jul 24

Many years ago Bob and I and some friends decided to do one really big and special meal for one of the Coronado concerts in the park. We organized a Hawaiian themed pig roast for a number of years. And then as many of you know, Bob and I stopped eating meat and we needed something unique to take its place.

Our friends Carla and Bobby Kennedy had been to a party where they met Emilio and enjoyed his delicious Spanish Paella. Emilio cooks the paella on site for friends and family for special occasions.

A Coronado Marriage Proposal Jun 01

A NAB Coronado Chief Warrant Officer chose an unusual, yet fitting venue for his marriage proposal.

U.S. Navy Chief Warrant Officer Scott Mielock had just returned from a deployment in Afghanistan with one major goal. He had help accomplishing it from the staff at Birch Aquarium who he had contacted before he returned to Coronado.

As you can see in the video below, one of the Birch Aquarium divers in the Kelp Tank held up sign asking Scott’s girlfriend Heidi if she would marry Scott.

We wish the newly engaged couple a lifetime of love and happiness!
