PAWS of Coronado – the Pacific Animal Welfare Society – was founded in 2003 as a non-profit animal welfare organization.

PAWS of CoronadoThey are a no-kill group whose work includes activities related to finding forever homes for orphaned animals that have been abandoned or surrendered.

In addition to working closely with the Coronado Animal Care Facility (ACF) to care for and find homes for the animals at ACF, PAWS does the following:

  • Educate and raise public awareness about animal welfare
  • Sponsor a spay and neuter program – “A Litter Free Coronado”
  • Promote and assist local TNR (trap, neuter and return)
  • Maintain a foster care program
  • Advocate senior pet to senior citizen adoptions
  • Network with animal facilities, rescue groups, humane societies

All of their programs are supported through their fund raising – via membership, solicitation of donations, special events, and more.

“A Litter Free Coronado” Program:

This spay and neuter program was launched by PAWS to help maintain and reduce the number of unowned, free roaming cats in Coronado, Imperial Beach, National City and Chula Vista.

This program is open to residents of these four communities who own a cat or take care of a cat community. If eligible, the cat caregiver can take the cat to be spayed or neutered for free at one of two veterinary clinics – VCA Main Street or The Pet Clinic in Chula Vista.

To see if you qualify, call Louise, the PAWS program coordinator, at 619-435-8247. In your voice message, tell her that you are interested in the “Litter Free Coronado” program. Make sure you include your name and contact telephone number.

You can become a society member of PAWS to help them help the animals.

There are four classes of membership:

  • Companion ~ $50
